at the boston convention center. i talked to a top campaign aide, he said they were feeling confident. they like what they're seeing in their internal polls. now it's just all about which of these candidates' supporters are most intense and most enthusiastic and how many of them are going to turn out to vote today. >> jan crawford, thank you. president obama made his last campaign stops monday in wisconsin, ohio, and iowa. and after his final rally in des moines, the president spent the night in his hometown of chicago. nancy is there. good morning. >> reporter: the president is waking up in his own townhouse th morning, and unlike governor romney, he is staying put. no campaign stops. he'll play a traditional pickup basketball game with friends and aides, maybe drop by obama campaign headquarters to thank all of his staffers and volunteers. then tonight he will head to this convention center for what he hopes will be a victory party. on a clear, chilly night, president obama joined 20,000 supporters at the same corner in downtown des moines where he opened a small campaign office back in 2007.

limited service between new york city and boston. new jersey transit will start moving today with limited service. the new york subway system making advances, little by little. the m-train, which links queens to manhattan, just started run. there are still no trains running from low 34th street where half of manhattan remains this morning in the dark. so the millions of new yorkers who depend on subways are now waiting, as you can see in these pictures, in long lines for city buses. for those who drive into the new york city area, the lines stretched for miles yesterday. enough to make you turn around and stay home. in an effort to ease gridlock in the city, the mayor has ordered all vehicles entering manhattan must have at least three passengers. that stands for the rest of the week. there are check points set up on the way into the city with cars not meeting the three-person rule being turned away. and you're only beginning to make your way to new york, if you're lucky, to find gas or cars. about 80% of new jersey stations are either without power or without fuel. those that do have gas

flurries right there. it's all moving to the east. it's still nasty around the cape and also boston, getting strong winds this morning. look at these snow totals. greenwich, connecticut, 6". over 4.5" at central park. jfk. parts of new jersey freehold and manchester around a foot of snow has occurred with this storm. really incredible considering the time of year. so far today highest wind gusts in new york city is 36. we still have gusts out at martha's vineyard over 60 miles per hour. that's where it looks like the worst weather is at this time. overall it's gradually going to be moving out by tomorrow morning. >> is there any good weather news? >> for once i would like to talk to you charlie, without something swirling behind me there. there is good news. for the weekend it's going to be much warmer. temperatures might even be a bit above normal. and see something we see a lot here, sunshine. >>> mark strassmann made it to new york's laguardia airport. good morning. >> lots of canceled flights and with good reason. i flew in ahead of the storm. right through the w

is live in the boston with more. john? >> reporter: good afternoon. great job, by the way, last night, really terrific. megyn: back at you. >> reporter: i talked with a romney adviser just a few minutes ago who told me the campaign wasn't aware of any kind of a formal invitation from the president at this point to come down to the white house and talk about issues, but this adviser suggested that if an invitation like that did come, that governor romney would probably most certainly take the president up on it for the sake of trying to bring the nation together after such a divisive election. that was a big theme of his campaign in the closing days, reaching across the aisle to get things done, and it was the theme in his concession speech last night as he urged leaders who will carry the country forward from january on to work together to try to solve some of the big issues that are facing this country. the governor basically saying that's one of the reasons why he ran for president. here he is. >> i ran for office because i'm concerned about america. this election is over, but our p

in the edwards school in boston, i use these examples because there are examples where we see things work, then let's use it to engage kids. we know if kids are engaged in music, they don't drop out. we know if you actually figure out what will spark an interest in kids whether it's robot particulars, for me it was civics because i was a social studies teacher, arts, physical education, sports, if you spark an interest in an add less sent, they'll stay. >> i'll go a step further. it seems like there was a time, randi, where parents were at fault. the schools are doing what they can, now it's parents, parents, parents. now it's teachers. they're insufficient, inadequate. we can't have them making living wages or any of those kinds of things. >> right. really, really important but we're going to bash them and we don't want to hear their voice. >> it feels like not only do you need these kinds of things to keep students engaged, but teachers in order to feel excited and make a difference, you can't have 50 kids in a classroom and be teaching to a standardized test and feel at all points like
